Kayla Carroll-Williams named winner of 2022-23 Nick & Emily Zoroya Family Scholarship

Detroit United Lacrosse is proud to annouce the winner of the 2022-2023 Nick & Emily Zoroya Family Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship goes towards a Detroit United Lacrosse player's college education and will gain access to lifelong mentorship from both Nick and Emily. This year's winner is Kayla Carroll-Williams.

Kayla has been playing lacrosse since she picked up a stick at her older sister's Detroit United Panther's practice in 2019. Since then, Kayla has been all in with the sport. Kayla graduated from Cass Technicial High School last month and is committed to play lacrosse next year at Virginia State University (NCAA DII). Kayla was a member of inaugural lacrosse team at Cass Tech in 2021 and was a high impact player all 3 years. She received Honorable Mention All-State (2022) and Third Team All-State (2023) honors as a midfielder, as well as Team Academic All-State honors (2021-2023) and Individual Academic All-State honors (2022, 2023). She was named Best Offensive Player (2021) and was a 2x MVP (2022-2023). Additionally, she current holds several school team records.

Off the field, Kayla was active in her school's drama department and was a leader in many of the school's productions. She spent her summers in high school coaching youth in her community through Detroit United Lacrosse's youth and summer programs.
