PLL Comes to Detroit

Detroit United Lacrosse welcomed the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) to Detroit this past weekend. PLL players Sergio Perkovic, Timothy Troutner, Troy Reh and Marcus Holman joined 130 Detroit and Metro Detroit kids at Detroit PAL for a sunny day of lacrosse.

As a select partner of the PLL Academy, PLL Assists and as a PLL Verified organization, Detroit United has been itching to welcome the pros to our city. Our kids greeted the professional players with smiles and a hunger to learn.

In the morning, Reh and Holman welcomed our littles with open arms and trained them up during the Players Tour. Targeted at ages 7-16, the Players Tour focused on introducing and refining fundamental skills. The improvement from the beginning of the clinic to the end was undeniable — some of our youth have only recently picked up a stick this past summer, but they were keeping up and challenging their experienced peers.

Our 60 youth athletes were able to walk away with signed pinnies, balls, hats and more after meeting the pros. After lunch, the High School Combine began.

Perkovic, a Metro Detroit native, led our High School Combine with excitement and rigor. 70 teens watched the Brother Rice alum along with Troutner, Reh and Holman as they refined their skills and broke off into small, specialized groups. Our Detroit United Panthers players were joined by other high schoolers in the area and gained feedback from the experts.

With the sun beating down on an uncharacteristically warm October day, the afternoon ended with a small-sided scrimmage where the teens were able to show off their fresh skills and get noticed by the pros. Some of our Panthers boys caught the attention of the pros with hopes of setting up college recruitment opportunities.

Detroit United thanks the PLL for coming to our city for a successful day of training, and we extend our gratitude to Allan Rabil and Andrew Manning for organizing this opportunity for our kids. We can’t wait for continued partnerships with the professional league in the future.
